Background

Wingecarribee Adult Day Care Centres

For over a quarter of a century Wingecarribee Day Care Centres (WADCC) have supported the frail, aged, disabled, socially isolated and dementia sufferers and their carers by providing a range of social and recreational programs to enhance their independence and quality of life. Currently WADCC has approximately 166 clients who attend nine groups a week at the Bowral and Moss Vale centres and the Colo Vale Community Centre.

Established in 1989 with opening of the Carribee Centre in Bowral WADCC has increased its programs and services to meet the needs of the expanding aged population of the Southern Highlands which has the second highest percentage of over 55 population in New South Wales.   The original centre was expanded in 1997.

WADCC is one of the two adult day care organisations in Australia owned and run by the community, the others being owned and run by local councils and churches.

In 2008 a second facility was opened in the Queen Street Centre, Moss Vale.  The Queen Street Centre was funded on a dollar funding by the Federal Government and the Wingecarribee community and was strongly supported by The Rotary Club of Moss Vale.  The building of the Carribee Centre and its expansion was undertaken and financed by the generosity of the Southern Highlands Community supported by grants from the State Government.
